Meet our valuable people
We began in Fan Tan Alley in 1986. Our team is small but 100% committed to our core values. Our valuable people philosophy has allowed us to grow beyond Victoria to serve clients across North America, Iceland, Europe and Japan.
John and Barbara de Jong
Owners / Marketing / Administration
Our philosophy of “valuable people, valuable relationships, creating valuable results” are not just cliché words to us. They are the foundation we have built our 34 years of marriage upon, and the guidelines by which we have raised our 3 sons.
Barbara’s 17 years as a stay-at-home mom have undoubtedly equipped her for customer service as much as John’s 40+ years in sales, marketing, and management with companies like Ingram Micro, Epson, and the Pattison Automotive Group.
But don’t take our word for it, check out our Google reviews and see if we’re the kind of company you want to do business with!

The history of Alley Kat Signs
1986
Did you know Alley Kat Signs was started in the historical Fan Tan Alley?
That’s where the name Alley Kat comes from. From our humble beginnings in a back alley, Lorali Burns pioneered our business based on hand-crafted signs with prompt turnaround and fair pricing.
1993
Don and Cathy Prevost purchased the business when Lorali retired for health reasons. Don and Kathy built upon the existing foundation, expanding from painted signs and 1 vinyl cutter all the way into digital printing and dimensional letters.
2009
John and Barbara de Jong, another husband and wife partnership purchased the business from Don and Cathy (who were also moving into semi-retirement).
2013
We expanded into a larger renovated space on Bridge Street. Updated equipment including wide-format printers, laminators and 3 plotters, large-format cutters, and more allow increased productivity with the efficiency of a smaller staff.
